Real Self Care
What do you do for self-care?
Here’s my genuine answer - I line it up with a pedicure, buccal facial, lymphatic massage, and maybe I’ll buy a shirt that I don’t need, while I google on more ways to fix “this whatever feeling”.
After 3 long months of this self-care routine, I still felt overwhelmed. If anything, I was beginning to be afraid of being alone with my toddler. Everything was too much.
So, I googled more.
Maybe I need to join a workout class.
Maybe I need to make new friends.
Maybe I need to take up a new hobby.
Nope — this wasn’t it either.
What I was missing is spiritual-care.
My out-of-control emotions was not regulated by God’s truths.
I was putting hope in my toddler’s sleep schedule:
“If she only sleeps, my day will be better”.
I was putting hope in my husband’s work schedule:
“If he was back early, my day will be better”.
I was putting hope in a self care routine that could never give me long-lasting peace like God can.
God affirmed that “those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:31)
God is teaching me what real care looks like and what hope means. Only His hope will not disappoint us.
